OneSpoon
About
To create a space where cultural diversity, local history, and community come together in design for a fully functional restaurant space. OneSpoon pulls inspiration from the surrounding London landscapes to fully capture the building’s importance to Londoners and visitors alike. Museum London focuses on cultural recognition and restoration through art and historical precedence so too should the proposed restaurant space within the building.
One Spoon is located inside Museum London, a building which sits at the pivotal joining point of the Northern and Southern stems of the Thames River in London, ON. This convergence point is rooted in historical, environmental, and cultural importance. Human activity in this region can be traced back to the original First Nations settlements where the “forks” were a hub for trading, meeting, and access to natural resources.
The term “dish with one spoon” was often mentioned by Indigenous peoples while making treaties with one another to avoid violent conflict. The “dish” represents the occupied land and the “spoon” represents the people living on and using the resources of the land through mutual co-operation.
